About Us
The public organization "Union of Human Rights Defenders of Ukraine" (provided the Union) was established on March 28, 2023, with the aim of protecting human rights and freedom of speech in Ukraine. The Union is represented in all regions of Ukraine.
In each region, the Union has its own closed group on social media and a coordinator for the region.
Members of the Union are issued a Human Rights Defender certificate. According to international law, a human rights defender is one who protects rights and freedoms.
In its activities, the Union relies on the Constitution of Ukraine, the laws of Ukraine, and international treaties ratified by the Verkhovna Rada, as well as on the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders adopted by the UN in 1998.
From April 2023
The organization conducts training for journalists and human rights defenders.
From July 8 to July 11, 2024
The Union held a congress of human rights defenders in the village of Velykyi Khodak in the Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, where current issues such as the unification of all human rights defenders in Ukraine were discussed.
The head of the NGO "Union of Human Rights Defenders of Ukraine" is Ostap Stakhiv.
